U.S. Rep. Riley Moore Shares Photos From Visit to Displaced Persons in Benue State

U.S. lawmaker shares photos and calls for global attention to the humanitarian crisis.
During the trip, Moore toured several IDP settlements and also met with religious and traditional leaders, including Catholic bishops and the Tor Tiv, the traditional ruler of the Tiv people, to discuss security challenges and humanitarian needs.

He later posted photos from the visit on his official social media account, showing him speaking with displaced families and interacting with community representatives

Moore revealed that he heard deeply distressing stories from survivors of violence:

  • One woman told him her husband and five children were killed in an attack, while she survived with her unborn baby.

  • In another account, a father described how his family was murdered in front of him, leaving him physically injured and emotionally broken.

“These stories will never leave me,” Moore said after the visit.

Moore raised alarm over the scale of the crisis, saying over 600,000 Christians are currently living in IDP camps in Benue State alone. He described conditions in the camps as dire and urged international support for food, healthcare, and security assistance.

The congressman said he undertook the visit to draw attention to the growing humanitarian crisis in the region. He called on the international community to act, declaring that the victims “will no longer suffer in silence.”

Moore urged global governments, charities, and faith-based organizations to support displaced families and help address the causes of the violence.

Moore’s photos showed:

  • Crowded IDP camp environments

  • Children and families living in temporary shelters

  • Meetings with local leaders and church officials

The images have since attracted attention online, prompting renewed discussions about humanitarian support for Benue State.
