Governor Soludo Declares October 7 School-Free Day to Honour Teachers in Anambra
The announcement was made via a statement by the State’s Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, in Awka. She noted that since this year’s World Teachers’ Day fell on a Sunday (October 5), the governor approved the following Tuesday as the day for recognition and celebration of teachers in Anambra.
Prof. Chuma-Udeh added that all primary and secondary schools public and private would be closed for the day.
In addition, a “mega endorsement march” has been scheduled to take place at Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, beginning at 8:00 a.m. Teachers, parents, and school proprietors are expected to participate.
The march will also involve the Solution Parents League and the Association of Private School Owners, ostensibly in appreciation of Governor Soludo’s educational policies and reforms in the state.
Across Nigeria, teachers recently used World Teachers’ Day to highlight ongoing challenges in the profession, including calls for better remuneration, improved welfare, and full implementation of the 65-year retirement age policy.
