Hisbah Arrests 25 Over Alleged Same-Sex Wedding in Kano

The Kano State Hisbah Board has taken into custody 25 individuals for allegedly attempting to conduct a same-sex wedding ceremony in the Hotoro area of Kano metropolis.

The Deputy Commander of the Board, Mujahedeen Aminudeen, confirmed the arrests in a statement released on Sunday, October 26, 2025.

According to Aminudeen, the suspects, consisting of 18 men and seven women, were detained on Saturday at the Fatima Event Centre, situated along the Hotoro Bypass in Kano.

“On Saturday, October 25, 2025, we received intelligence that a group was allegedly organizing a same-sex marriage,” he stated.

“Our operatives swiftly moved to the Fatima Event Centre, where the unlawful gathering was taking place, and apprehended 25 individuals in connection with the incident.”

He further disclosed that those arrested, including the supposed groom, were residents of various areas such as Sheka, Yar Gaya, and Kofar Nasarawa.

Aminudeen emphasized that the Hisbah Board would continue to take firm action against activities that contravene the moral and religious principles of Kano State.

“We will not sit idly by while certain individuals attempt to tarnish the image and values of our state,” he warned.
