Abia Assembly Plans Peaceful March to Abuja for Nnamdi Kanu’s Release

The Abia State House of Assembly has announced its intention to embark on a peaceful march to Abuja to press for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

According to Punch, the motion for the march was adopted during a plenary session, where legislators expressed deep concern over Kanu’s health and ongoing detention.

The House aligned itself with Governor Alex Otti, other South-East governors, and prominent stakeholders in demanding that Kanu be released, particularly on medical grounds.

During debates, members pointed to a valid court order and legal arguments as justification for the demand. They also proposed that representatives of the Abia Assembly should meet with leaders at the National Assembly  including the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives as part of the effort.

Speaker of the House, Emmanuel Emeruwa, criticized the federal government’s continued detention of Kanu despite the court’s order, calling it a paradoxical dual system of justice.

As of the latest reports, the exact date for the march has not been announced.
