Natasha Akpoti Resumes Senate Duties, Declares “We Cannot Cower in the Face of Injustice"

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan speaking during her first interview after resuming Senate duties
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has officially resumed her duties at the National Assembly, declaring that she will continue to defend the integrity of her office despite past challenges.

In her first interview since returning, shared  on X (formerly Twitter), the senator delivered a bold statement on institutional accountability and her treatment in the Senate.

“It is good to put institutions to the test; no one is more Nigerian than us. Senator Akpabio is not more of a senator than I am, and he treated me like I was his servant. We cannot cower in the face of injustice,” Akpoti-Uduaghan asserted.

She condemned what she described as an illegal suspension, emphasizing that the move did not deter her from serving her constituents.

“Even though I was suspended illegally, I effectively carried out my duties as a senator to Kogi Central because I didn’t want them to suffer neglect,” she said.

The outspoken lawmaker stressed her commitment to ensuring that Kogi Central remains fully represented in the Senate, adding that her experience reflects the need to challenge injustice within Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

Her comments come against the backdrop of political tensions and debates on legislative fairness, particularly around the treatment of lawmakers who challenge leadership decisions in the Senate.
