Two-Storey Building Collapses in Mangoro Lagos, leaving six people trapped beneath the rubble
The incident occurred at about 6:00 p.m. at No. 4 Modupeola Street, Mangoro Bus Stop, causing panic among residents and commuters in the busy area.
Emergency officials from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), firefighters, and other first responders rushed to the scene and successfully rescued all six victims.
According to reports, five of the victims were pulled out and immediately taken to a nearby private hospital for medical attention. The sixth victim, identified as a 44-year-old man residing at 10 Olabode Street, Alimosho, sustained severe injuries, including fractures and bruises. He was rescued after being trapped for several hours and was transported by the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) to the Surgical Emergency Unit of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), where he is currently receiving treatment.
While the rescue operation has been concluded, the cause of the collapse remains unknown. Authorities have begun investigations to determine what led to the incident.
Videos and pictures circulating on social media showed emergency workers combing through the debris while residents gathered at the site, expressing frustration over the frequency of building collapses in Lagos.
The latest collapse adds to a growing list of similar tragedies in the state. In May 2025, three members of a family lost their lives in Ikorodu after an uncompleted two-storey building gave way. Again, in July 2025, a three-storey building collapsed along Adeniji-Adele Road, Isale Eko, though the casualties were fewer.
The recurring incidents have heightened concerns about poor construction practices, the use of substandard materials, and weak enforcement of building regulations in Lagos State.
Authorities have urged residents to report unsafe structures in their communities as part of efforts to avert further tragedies.
