The Nigerian government has officially included Chinese (Mandarin) as one of the foreign languages to be taught in senior secondary schools nationwide.

This change comes after a recent national curriculum review. The new curriculum will take effect in the 2025/2026 academic session.

The announcement was made by Dr. Danlami Hayyo, Secretary of Education for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), during the inauguration of the 14th “Chinese Corner” at Government Secondary School, Tudun Wada, Abuja.

“Chinese Corners” are educational/cultural centres sponsored by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), intended to promote Chinese language and culture in schools.
