NAFDAC seals illegal Herbal Medicine facility in Kaduna worth N5 Million
The enforcement exercise, carried out on August 29, 2025, followed intelligence reports that exposed the facility, identified as SHIFA’UNNUR, which had been operating without regulatory approval and under unhygienic conditions.
NAFDAC officials said the illegal plant failed to meet the minimum standards required for the production of consumable herbal medicines. The site reportedly used substandard equipment in a hidden and unsafe environment, raising concerns over the health risks posed to unsuspecting consumers.
Speaking after the raid, Shamsuddeen Mani, Principal Regulatory Officer of NAFDAC, stressed the dangers of consuming unregistered herbal products.
“The equipment used in this unhygienic setup was substandard. These products pose serious health risks as their safety, quality, and efficacy cannot be guaranteed,” Mani said.
All products found on the premises, estimated at a market value of ₦5 million, were seized and taken into custody for destruction. The facility has since been sealed, while investigations continue to identify those behind the illegal operation. NAFDAC has confirmed that legal action will be taken against the operators.
The agency reiterated its commitment to protecting public health and warned Nigerians against the dangers of patronizing unregistered, counterfeit, or substandard herbal and pharmaceutical products. It further assured the public that surveillance and enforcement operations will continue nationwide to curb the menace of illegal drug and herbal product manufacturers.
