Dangote Group Clarifies, Says Truck in Enugu Accident Not Theirs
The crash, which occurred around 9 a.m., involved a Howo truck loaded with cement and a Toyota Corolla. The vehicle, branded with Dangote’s logo but registered to Visco Investment Global Limited, was reportedly traveling from Aba to Abuja.
In a statement, Dangote said the truck was not part of its fleet and described the logo use as unauthorized. The company vowed to tighten controls to prevent misuse of its brand identity.
“We are engaging the relevant agencies to determine why our logo was on a truck not linked to us,” the statement read, urging the public to avoid spreading unverified claims. Dangote also pledged full cooperation with authorities investigating the crash.
The clarification comes amid growing public criticism over accidents involving trucks branded with Dangote’s logo. Recently, Ruth Otabor — sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna — died after being hit by a truck allegedly linked to the group near Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State.
Her family confirmed she passed away days after her leg was amputated from injuries sustained in the August 13 accident.
Many Nigerians have since called for stricter regulation of heavy-duty vehicles associated with the conglomerate.
