Residents flee after bandit attack in Patigi, Kwara State, where a pregnant woman was killed and others abducted
Fear and panic gripped parts of Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, after suspected bandits launched coordinated attacks on several villages, killing a pregnant woman, abducting residents, and carting away motorcycles.

The armed assailants, said to be riding motorcycles and heavily armed, stormed Motokun and Egboro communities in the early hours of the day, opening fire indiscriminately on villagers. Another attack was reported in Fanagun village under Tsaragi Emirate, where three Fulani men and their cattle were abducted.

Eyewitnesses reported that a pregnant woman, who sustained gunshot wounds during the assault, later died at Patigi General Hospital. Several other villagers were also injured in the attack.

Reports further indicate that about eight people were kidnapped, while the gunmen made away with at least 15 motorcycles belonging to locals.

The violence sparked widespread panic, forcing scores of residents to abandon their homes and flee to nearby towns and safer areas. Many displaced families are now seeking shelter in Patigi town.

The Chairman of Patigi Local Government, Hon. Ahmed Rufai Adam, confirmed the incident, stating that a security meeting was underway to address the situation. He also assured residents that efforts were being made to restore calm and protect the affected communities.

Local leaders have called on both the Kwara State Government and federal security agencies to intervene swiftly, warning that unchecked banditry threatens the safety and livelihood of rural dwellers in the state.
