A suspected vandal was electrocuted while attempting to tamper with a transformer at Borno State University, Maiduguri.
Tragedy struck on Sunday morning, September 7, 2025, when a suspected vandal was electrocuted while attempting to tamper with a transformer located within the premises of Borno State University, Maiduguri.

The lifeless body of the unidentified man was discovered near the transformer and later evacuated to the hospital in collaboration with the Borno State Fire Service, according to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was electrocuted in an attempt to vandalize electrical installations,” the police spokesperson confirmed.

ASP Daso further disclosed that the Borno State Police Command has launched a full investigation into the incident to establish further details.

In response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, psc, issued a stern warning to criminal elements engaging in acts of vandalism and sabotage. He stressed that such activities not only endanger the perpetrators but also compromise public safety and disrupt essential services.

The Command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public infrastructure and urged residents to remain vigilant while reporting suspicious activities to security agencies.
