Bandits Ambush C-Watch Operatives in Katsina, Kill Eight and Burn Patrol Vehicle

Burnt patrol vehicle after bandit attack in Dandume, Katsina State
Late Friday night on September 5, 2025, suspected bandits launched a deadly ambush on operatives of the Community Watch Corps (C-Watch) in Magaji Wando, a village in Dandume Local Government Area, Katsina State. The attack resulted in the deaths of eight (8) individuals and the destruction by fire of two (2) patrol vehicles belonging to the security outfit.

According to residents, C-Watch operatives had initially responded to a distress call in which villagers had been shot and injured. The team succeeded in rescuing eight injured victims and began escorting them to safety. However, as they returned, they were ambushed by the bandits, who killed the rescued individuals and set two patrol vehicles ablaze..

This deadly ambush underscores the persistent security challenges plaguing northwestern Nigeria, particularly in Katsina State. Vigilante and security groups like C-Watch frequently respond to bandit attacks, yet often fall victim to further assaults themselves. Such incidents highlight the urgent need for more robust security frameworks, better intelligence systems, and improved coordination between local vigilantes and formal security agencies.

The attack once again raises concerns about the safety of rural communities and the brutal cycle of violence perpetuating unrest across the region.
