Enugu Road Tragedy: 10 Lives Lost in Two Fatal Accidents
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Enugu State Command, has confirmed that 10 people died in two separate crashes along the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway on Wednesday.
Sector Commander Franklin Agbakoba said the accidents, which occurred around 9:30 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. at the Police Estate and Toll Gate axis of Ozalla, involved seven vehicles and 40 people in total.
In the first crash, involving a trailer, two buses, and a car, nine people died instantly while one later died in hospital. The victims included 22 men, 11 women, and a child, with 10 others sustaining injuries.
The second crash, which involved two trailers and a tricycle, left six men injured but no deaths at the scene.
Agbakoba attributed both accidents to wrong-way driving, noting that the axis is notorious for motorists violating traffic rules.
“The major cause of these two accidents is basic Road Traffic Violation. Motorists continue to take the wrong way despite repeated road education and enforcement by our FRSC Ozalla Unit,” he said.
