Zaria Tanker Explosion: Multiple Deaths in Kaduna State Road Tragedy

Scene of tanker explosion in Zaria, Kaduna State, with flames and black smoke rising over the highway.
Several people have lost their lives following a deadly tanker explosion on Monday morning in Dan Magaji, Zaria, Kaduna State.

The incident happened at about 8:30 am near the Rochas Foundation School along the Kaduna–Kano expressway bypass, between Kwangila and Dan Magaji.

According to eyewitness accounts, including reports from security analyst Zagazola Makama, the crash involved two fuel-laden tankers and two passenger-filled Golf cars. The collision triggered a series of five loud explosions, sending massive flames and thick black smoke billowing into the air, completely engulfing the busy highway.

“All the occupants of the cars died on the spot, except one driver who survived but sustained severe burns,” an eyewitness told Makama.

Emergency services and security personnel arrived promptly to secure the area, contain the fire, and manage traffic. Motorists have been urged to take alternative routes as rescue and recovery operations continue.

The tragic incident has once again raised concerns over road safety and the dangers posed by tanker traffic on Nigeria’s highways.
