Rivers Police Arrest 23-Year-Old for Brutal Murder of Girlfriend in Etche

Rivers State Police operatives arrest 23-year-old Kingsley Chinamezu for the murder of his girlfriend Confidence Konebari Sunny 
The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old man, Kingsley Chinamezu, popularly known as Power Sharp, for the gruesome murder of his 44-year-old girlfriend, Confidence Konebari Sunny, in Umuebulu community, Etche Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, confirming that operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) apprehended the suspect in his hideout at Egbeta village, Edo State.

According to the statement, the incident occurred on July 30, 2025, when Chinamezu allegedly hacked Confidence to death with a machete before fleeing Rivers State. While on the run, he reportedly issued threats to the victim’s family, boasting that he could harm them without facing consequences.

“Following a formal complaint by the victim’s family, the Commissioner of Police assigned the case to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit. Through technical intelligence and swift action, operatives tracked and arrested the suspect on August 15, 2025, at his hideout in Egbeta village,” the statement read.

Iringe-Koko further revealed that Chinamezu voluntarily confessed to the crime during interrogation and provided details of the events leading to the murder. She added that investigators are gathering additional evidence and profiling him for possible links to other criminal activities.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, commended the swift efforts of the operatives, stressing that Rivers State will not serve as a safe haven for criminals.

He assured residents of the command’s determination to deliver justice, warning that perpetrators of violent crimes would be swiftly apprehended and prosecuted.
