Nigerian Man Sentenced to Five Years in UK for Rape and Sexual Assault in Gloucester

Court gavel and justice scales representing the sentencing of Segun Ogundipe for rape in Gloucester, UK.
A UK court has sentenced a 33-year-old Nigerian man, Segun Ogundipe, to five years in prison for raping and sexually assaulting a woman in Gloucester.

Ogundipe, a resident of Tuffley Lane, was convicted of rape, two counts of sexual assault, and assault by penetration after a trial at Gloucester Crown Court. He denied the charges, but the jury found him guilty based on compelling evidence.

This sentencing comes just days after another Nigerian, Elvis Nosakhare, was jailed for six years for sexually assaulting his girlfriend’s underage daughter.

According to Gloucestershire Police, the incident occurred in 2022 after Ogundipe met the woman at her workplace. He invited her out for drinks, but the evening quickly became uncomfortable as he made persistent sexual remarks.

Later, Ogundipe drove her to his home under the pretense of picking up an item. Once inside, and after the woman used the bathroom, he sexually assaulted and raped her.

Even while driving her to Cheltenham afterwards, he continued to touch her despite her repeated pleas for him to stop.

A routine police patrol stopped Ogundipe’s vehicle, giving the survivor an opportunity to escape. Although she was initially reluctant to talk about the incident, an officer noticed her distress, and she revealed that she had been raped.

Ogundipe was arrested and charged. In court, he claimed that the woman had initiated sexual contact and given her consent, but the jury rejected his version of events.

Presiding Judge Lowe acknowledged that Ogundipe had positive character references but stressed that the gravity of the crime left no room for leniency. He imposed a five-year prison term and ordered that Ogundipe be deported upon completion of his sentence.

In an emotional statement read in court, the survivor described the deep psychological toll the assault had taken on her life:

“Some days, what you did to me plays over and over in my head. What you did was vile and one of the worst things you could do to someone. I spent so long believing I must have deserved it, but I know now you had no right to my body. Every part of my life paused. I had to leave my job, I lost my spark, and even now I’m still only starting to heal.”
