NAFDAC Seizes ₦1.5bn Worth of Banned Goods in Lagos

NAFDAC officials seize expired and banned products at Lagos Trade Fair Market
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has confiscated banned, expired, and unregistered products valued at over ₦1.5 billion during a major enforcement operation at the cosmetics section of the Lagos Trade Fair market.

The raid, led by Dr. Martins Iluyomade, NAFDAC’s Director of Investigation and Enforcement, uncovered several warehouses filled with cosmetics, food items, and other regulated products that were either unregistered, expired, or lacked proper date markings.

According to the agency, more than one trailer load of these illicit products was evacuated from the market, while another trailer loaded with unapproved cosmetics was intercepted. The driver of the intercepted trailer reportedly fled the scene, but the vehicle was secured by NAFDAC operatives.

This operation is part of NAFDAC’s ongoing nationwide crackdown on unsafe and substandard consumer goods. The agency described the seizure as one of the largest in recent months and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting public health.

NAFDAC also urged consumers to remain vigilant, avoid purchasing unregulated products, and report any suspicious goods to the appropriate authorities.
