Ikorodu Court Detains 25-Year-Old for Stealing Construction Materials

Ikorodu Court remands 25-year-old man who pleaded guilty to stealing iron rods, wood, and bamboo from an uncompleted building. Sentencing set for September 11.
An Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of a 25-year-old man, Oluwaseyi Oluwakayode, who confessed to breaking into an uncompleted building and stealing construction materials.

Oluwakayode, whose residential address was not disclosed, is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, unlawful entry, and stealing.

Magistrate T. A. Shotobi directed that the defendant be kept in a correctional facility pending a review of the case facts and sentencing scheduled for September 11.

According to the prosecution, led by ASP Christian Okonofua, the incident occurred on August 20 at about 5:00 a.m. at Okayiwola Close, Shamsideen, in the Sabo area of Ikorodu, Lagos.

The prosecutor alleged that the defendant broke into an uncompleted building owned by Mr. Folabi Onabanjo and carted away iron rods, wooden planks, and bamboo sticks meant for ongoing construction.

Okonofua further noted that the offences contravened Sections 411, 309, and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, which prescribe penalties for conspiracy, unlawful entry, and theft.

With his guilty plea already entered, Oluwakayode will remain in custody until the court reconvenes for sentencing.
