Wandering Elephant Kills Farmer in Ogun Community

Lifeless body of Ogun farmer after deadly elephant attack in Itasin-Imobi community
A tragic incident unfolded in the Itasin-Imobi community, Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State, as a wandering elephant from a government-reserved forest reportedly attacked and killed a local farmer, Musa Kalamu, also known as Kala.

According to eyewitnesses, the elephant invaded Kalamu’s farmland, where it violently attacked him, resulting in his gruesome death. A disturbing viral video circulating on social media shows the lifeless body of the middle-aged farmer, with residents identifying him and describing the horrific injuries inflicted by the elephant.

“This elephant keeps coming into our community to destroy our crops, damage fishing nets, and now, it has taken a life,” one concerned resident lamented. Locals claim the animal has been a persistent menace in the area for over four years.

The community is now urging the Ogun State Government and relevant authorities to take urgent action to prevent further tragedies.

Confirming the incident, the Ogun State Commissioner for Forestry, Taiwo Oludotun, said:

“Yes, we are aware, and we are already on our way to the community.”

Also commenting on the situation, Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, stated through WhatsApp:

“Officers of Ogun State Forestry were contacted to curtail the animals from further damage. Calm has returned to the community.”

However, residents maintain that the issue is far from resolved and fear that unless swift measures are taken, more lives and livelihoods could be at risk.
