Vigilante, Two Others Arrested for Housebreaking in Niger State; 30 Phones, Generator Recovered

Police arrest vigilante and suspects in Niger State for theft, drug possession, and burglary
The Niger State Police Command has arrested a community vigilante member, Shuaibu Rabiu, alongside two others for alleged conspiracy, housebreaking, and theft.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 29, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said the suspects were arrested following a report filed at Maje Division after a burglary incident on July 17, 2025.

According to the report, unknown individuals broke into a residence along Kaduna Road and stole a power generator, an unregistered Jincheng motorcycle, and other valuables. The next day, the stolen generator was traced to the room of a neighbor identified as “Baban-Rimi,” who is currently at large. His guardian later opened the room, leading to the recovery of the generator.

During investigations, three suspects were apprehended: Shuaibu Rabiu, 26, of Hayi-Kaduna, Shamsudeen Isah, 24, of Deidei, FCT, Ahmad Hussain, also from Deidei, Abuja.

Shuaibu Rabiu, a community vigilante, was arrested on credible intelligence linking him to the gang. During interrogation, he named Shamsudeen Isah as a fellow gang member, while Ahmad Hussain was identified as a buyer of the stolen items.

The suspects confessed to involvement in several other housebreaking and theft cases. They also named additional receivers of stolen goods, including individuals identified as Buhari Jaguar and Dan-Boko, who are currently being sought.

Items recovered during the operation include: One power generator, 30 mobile handsets, 8 SIM cards, Two solar batteries, 145 wraps of cannabis, 10 bottles of codeine syrup, Face masks and other stolen items

SP Abiodun confirmed that the suspects are in custody and under ongoing investigation, while efforts continue to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate and recover more stolen property.
