Senator Ireti Kingibe Criticizes Abuja Insecurity: “Dead People Do Not Use Roads
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Senator Kingibe said:
“Being a successful minister isn’t about infrastructure; dead people do not use roads. The FCT is unsafe.”
The lawmaker stressed that while development projects like roads and bridges are important, they are secondary to the fundamental responsibility of securing lives and property. She called for urgent and sustained action to tackle the growing incidents of kidnappings, armed robberies, and other violent crimes that have plagued the capital city in recent months.
Senator Kingibe argued that the residents of the FCT deserve not only modern infrastructure but also the peace of mind to use these facilities without fear.
“We must ask ourselves: Who are we building these roads for? It’s the people. If the people are unsafe, if they’re being kidnapped or killed, then of what use are the roads? Dead people do not use roads,” she said emphatically.
Her remarks come amid widespread public criticism of the security situation in Abuja and other parts of the country. Many residents have raised alarms over brazen criminal attacks, including recent kidnappings in Gwagwalada, Bwari, and Kuje Area Councils.
Senator Kingibe urged the Federal Government and security agencies to prioritize intelligence gathering and rapid response to criminal threats in the territory.
“A minister’s success should be measured by how safe the people are, not just how many roads are commissioned,” she concluded.
Her comments have sparked debate across social media, with many Nigerians commending her candor and others calling for immediate policy shifts to address insecurity in the FCT.
