Photojournalist Ayo Aiyepekun Allegedly Murdered by Neighbor in Lokoja
According to reports, both men lived in the same compound that also houses the Inside Story office. A colleague and eyewitness recounted that Ayo was working on some video and photo editing tasks when Adebayo asked him to assist with something at his poultry farm located within the compound.
“Around 7:30 PM, the suspect called Ayo out. What he didn’t realize was that I was also in the office. As soon as Ayo stepped outside, Adebayo struck him repeatedly with an iron object,” the eyewitness revealed.
The horror didn’t end there. The eyewitness alleged that the suspect attempted to conceal the crime by placing Ayo’s body in a deep freezer before loading it into his Hilux van. Realizing what had happened, the witness quickly alerted others and contacted local vigilantes.
Though Adebayo initially escaped with the body, a chase ensued. During the pursuit, the suspect’s vehicle crashed, prompting him to flee on foot. Bloodstains were later found in the freezer, on the vehicle, and around the poultry area.
The motive remains unclear, but suspicions of ritual activity have been raised, especially since the body has yet to be recovered. The case has since been reported at the Kogi State Police Headquarters, and an investigation is underway.
Further disturbing details have emerged about the suspect, who is reportedly an employee of the Correctional Service. His wife was said to have recently separated from him due to domestic abuse.
The media community and residents of Lokoja are now demanding a full investigation and swift justice for the slain journalist. Ayo Aiyepekun is remembered as a passionate and dedicated media professional whose life was tragically cut short.
