Midnight Bandit Attack in Katsina: Two Wounded, Cattle Stolen, APC Damaged

Rural community in Katsina State patrolled by security forces after a bandit attack in Unguwar Gada.
Armed bandits launched a midnight attack on Unguwar Gada village in Kafur Local Government Area of Katsina State in the early hours of Saturday, injuring two residents and rustling an undisclosed number of cattle.

According to a report by security analyst and counterinsurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, the assailants stormed the village around 12:45 a.m. and fled through Rereji village in the neighbouring Malumfashi Local Government Area after stealing the livestock.

During the raid, two villagers—Sani Yau and Umar Shamsu—sustained gunshot wounds and were quickly transported to the General Hospital in Malumfashi for medical treatment.

Security forces responding to the distress call were ambushed by the fleeing bandits. The attackers opened fire on a police patrol team, severely damaging the front tyres and engine of an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC), rendering it immobile.

In response, troops and police have intensified surveillance operations and launched a manhunt to track down the assailants.

The attack underscores the growing security challenges in parts of Katsina State, which continues to face threats from bandit groups operating across rural communities.
