Gunmen Kill DSS Officer, Injure Three Police Officers in Imo State Ambush—Soltrenx News

Burnt security vehicle after deadly gunmen attack on FUTO CMD convoy along Okigwe-Umuna highwayA personnel of the Department of State Services (DSS) attached to the convoy of the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Dr. Kingsley Achigbu, was shot and killed during a violent ambush by armed terrorists along the Okigwe–Umuna axis of the Owerri–Okigwe highway.

According to a reliable family source, the attack occurred last Saturday as the CMD’s family was returning from Enugu. The convoy ran into an ambush laid by the gunmen, resulting in gunfire that left one DSS officer dead and three police officers injured.

“One of the injured officers was rushed into the hospital for emergency surgery,” “The family narrowly escaped death.”

The source further explained that the terrorists opened heavy fire, targeting the convoy’s Hilux escort vehicle and deflating its tyres. Amid the chaos, the occupants — some injured — fled into nearby bushes for safety.

“Unable to seize the fleeing vehicle carrying the Achigbu family, the attackers returned to the damaged Hilux and set it ablaze,” the source added.

There was initial confusion about the whereabouts of the Hilux driver, identified only as Austine, but he has since rejoined the family unharmed. It was also confirmed that all security operatives in the convoy escaped with their rifles.

Security agencies were quickly deployed to the scene following the incident. The injured officers were located and transported to a medical facility for treatment.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Imo State Police Command, the DSS, nor the management of FUTO had issued an official statement on the attack.
