Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have apprehended a 43-year-old makeup artist, identified as Adekoya Mary, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. The suspect was arrested just moments before boarding a flight bound for India, where she claimed she was traveling to undergo fibroid surgery. However, a thorough search led to the discovery of two large parcels of cocaine, weighing a total of 2.20 kilograms.

NDLEA officers intercepted 43-year-old makeup artist Adekoya Mary at Lagos airport with 2.20kg of cocaine as she attempted to board a flight to India for alleged fibroid surgery. The suspect, linked to fugitive drug baron Akeem Ayinde Adekanbi, now faces prosecution.According to the NDLEA, Adekoya Mary had concealed the illicit drugs in a manner intended to evade detection at airport security checkpoints. The arrest highlights the relentless efforts of the NDLEA in curbing the trafficking of hard drugs such as cocaine, heroin, and other dangerous substances through Nigerian airports.

Further investigations have revealed a disturbing twist. The suspect allegedly acted on the instructions and funding of a notorious drug baron, identified as Akeem Ayinde Adekanbi. Adekanbi is said to own Rockford Hotel located in the Sango area of Ogun State, and resides at Igbe Laara, in the Igbogbo area of Ikorodu, Lagos State. Authorities have intensified the manhunt for the fugitive drug kingpin, as he remains at large.

NDLEA officials noted that had the operation succeeded, the suspect stood to gain millions of naira as a reward. This arrest serves as a strong warning to those considering involvement in drug trafficking, as the agency remains vigilant at all entry and exit points across Nigeria.
