New Driver’s License and Number Plate Fees in Nigeria Effective June 8, 2025
Starting tomorrow, Sunday, June 8, 2025, Nigerians will face increased costs for obtaining or renewing driver's licenses and vehicle number plates, following a nationwide price adjustment approved by the Joint Tax Board (JTB). The new fees apply to all new applications, renewals, and reissues across the country.
Revised Driver’s License Fees
Motor Vehicle Drivers:
- ₦15,000 for a 3-year license
- ₦21,000 for a 5-year license
- Tricycle/Motorcycle Operators:
- ₦7,000 for a 3-year license
- ₦11,000 for a 5-year license
Updated Number Plate Fees:
- Standard Private/Commercial Vehicle Plate: ₦30,000
- Articulated Vehicle Plate: ₦90,000
- Dealer Vehicle Plate: ₦100,000
- Out-of-Series Plate: ₦150,000
- Fancy Vehicle Plate: ₦400,000
- Government Standard Vehicle Plate: ₦80,000
- Government Fancy Vehicle Plate: ₦120,000
- Motorcycle Plate: ₦12,000
- Fancy Motorcycle Plate: ₦50,000
- Government Standard Motorcycle Plate: ₦20,000
- Government Fancy Motorcycle Plate: ₦50,000
The JTB attributes these increases to the introduction of enhanced security features in both number plates and driver's licenses, as well as rising production costs . The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and State Motor Vehicle Licensing Authorities have been directed to implement the new rates nationwide.
