Lagos Police Confirm Pastor Paul Adefarasin Reported for Questioning Over Viral Gun Video
In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, the command acknowledged public concern surrounding the video, which surfaced online and quickly attracted attention across social media platforms.
"Pastor Paul Adefarasin came in voluntarily to assist with our investigation regarding a video that shows him in possession of an object resembling a firearm," the police spokesperson said. "We are conducting a thorough review to determine the nature of the object and the context of the incident."
The viral footage, which has sparked debate online, shows the prominent Lagos-based cleric near a vehicle during what appeared to be a roadside confrontation. In the clip, he was seen briefly holding an item resembling a handgun, prompting questions about whether it was a real weapon and whether he is licensed to carry it.
While the pastor has not made a public statement at the time of this report, sources close to his ministry suggest that the object may not have been a firearm, but possibly a prop or a licensed protective device. Nonetheless, the police say they are treating the matter with all necessary seriousness.
"We urge the public to remain calm and avoid jumping to conclusions while the investigation is ongoing," the statement added.
The Lagos State Police Command also reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the law, stressing that no individual is above scrutiny, regardless of their public or religious status.
Pastor Adefarasin, widely respected for his leadership and influence in Nigeria’s Christian community, is known for his social advocacy and large congregations both locally and internationally. His church, House on the Rock, is one of the country’s most prominent Pentecostal ministries.
The investigation is ongoing, and updates will be provided as new details emerge.
