According to reports, the incident took place around 3:00 a.m. on Monday. Eyewitnesses claim that Idowu confronted Michael and, without provocation, shot him. The suspect reportedly fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
In the aftermath, enraged youths and community members took to the streets in protest, carrying Michael's body from Itapo through the town to express their outrage over the killing. The protest escalated, prompting intervention from the police and other security agencies, who used gunshots and tear gas to disperse the crowd. The authorities retrieved the corpse and transported it to a morgue.
The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of the OPC leader in Epe, while a manhunt is underway for the primary suspect, Idowu. The victim's mother, Mrs. Seyi Olaifa, has called for justice, urging law enforcement to apprehend and prosecute those responsible for her son's death.
This incident has reignited concerns over the activities of vigilante groups like the OPC and their interactions with civilians. Community leaders and residents are demanding thorough investigations and accountability to prevent such occurrences in the future.
The Lagos State Police Command has assured the public of its commitment to justice and has urged anyone with information regarding the suspect's whereabouts to come forward.
