Katsina Housewife Stabs Co-Wife to Death Over Domestic Dispute
In a tragic incident that has shocked the community of Daura, Katsina State, a 23-year-old housewife, Rabi’a Labaran, has been arrested for allegedly stabbing her co-wife, 30-year-old Zainab Lawal, to death during a domestic altercation.
The fatal confrontation occurred late on May 24, 2025, behind Dadi Primary School in the Sabon Gari area of Daura town. According to the Katsina State Police Command, a domestic dispute between the two women escalated into violence. Their husband, Nasir Yusuf, reported that upon returning home from the market around 11:00 p.m., he found Zainab lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds.
Police officers from the Sabon Gari Division responded promptly to the emergency call. They rushed the victim to the Federal Medical Centre in Daura, where she was pronounced dead by the attending physician.
During the investigation, Rabi’a Labaran was arrested in connection with the incident. She reportedly confessed to the crime, stating that a misunderstanding with Zainab led to a physical altercation, during which she used a knife to stab her co-wife multiple times.
The Katsina State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, condemned the act and urged the public to avoid taking the law into their own hands. He emphasized the importance of resolving disputes through lawful means and warned against acts of domestic violence.
The suspect remains in police custody as the investigation continues. The police have not yet disclosed whether the murder weapon has been recovered or if the act was premeditated.
This incident has sparked discussions about the challenges faced in polygamous households, particularly concerning domestic disputes and the need for effective conflict resolution mechanisms. Community leaders and law enforcement agencies are calling for increased awareness and education to prevent such tragedies in the future.
