Gombe State Appoints 16-Year-Old Girl as Children’s Parliament Speaker
GOMBE – In a significant milestone for youth representation and advocacy, a 16-year-old science student, Ramlat Ahmed, has been officially inaugurated as the Speaker of the Gombe State Children’s Parliament.
Ramlat, a Senior Secondary School Two (SS2) student at Ilimi School in Gombe, emerged as the Speaker following a rigorous selection process aimed at promoting child participation in governance and decision-making. Her inauguration marks a new chapter for the Children’s Parliament, which serves as a platform for young voices to influence policies and initiatives affecting children across the state.
At the inauguration ceremony, government officials, education stakeholders, child rights advocates, and students gathered to witness the historic moment. In her acceptance speech, Ramlat expressed gratitude for the opportunity and pledged to use her new role to advocate for improved education, health, and welfare policies for children in Gombe State.
“This is a call to serve all children in Gombe, especially the voiceless. I will ensure that the Children’s Parliament becomes a vibrant platform for change,” she said.
The Gombe State Children’s Parliament was established to foster leadership, civic engagement, and responsibility among young people. As Speaker, Ramlat is expected to lead deliberations on key issues affecting children, collaborate with relevant stakeholders, and represent the interests of her peers both within and beyond the state.
Education authorities have praised Ramlat’s appointment, describing her as a dedicated and intelligent student with strong leadership qualities.
